Scout Law - Helpful

The Hungarian Scout Law

  • A Scout is upright and always tells the truth.
  • A Scout does his/her duties to God, his/her Country and his/her fellow people.
  • A Scout helps whenever he/she can.
  • A Scout is a brother/sister to all Scouts.
  • A Scout is gentle with others, but strict to him/herself.
  • A Scout loves nature, is kind to animals and takes care of plants.
  • A Scout obeys his superiors willingly and wholeheartedly.
  • A Scout is cheerful and considerate.
  • A Scout is thrifty.
  • A Scout is clean in body and soul.

The Hungarian Scout Law takes the common 'kind' and replaces it with "gentle with others, but strict to him/herself." A scout guides his fellow scouts with a gentle hand, being patient and encouraging, however, a scout holds himself to a higher standard, pushing himself hard be the man he can be and not letting himself get away with things even if no one will ever know.

The Hungarian Scout Law add 'soul' to the list of things to be kept clean. While the Irish Scout Law lists 'thought, word and deed', the Hungarian Scout Law focuses on the source of clean 'thought, word and deed'. If a Scout keeps his soul clean, clean thoughts, words and deeds will naturally follow.
